Walter Williams, Baptist Children’s Homes (BCH) trustee and longtime friend of the ministry, is a recipient of the 2015 Heritage Award. The award is among the highest of honors given to a North Carolina Baptist.
“There are three things that characterize Walter’s life: love God, work hard and bless others,” said BCH president/CEO Michael C. Blackwell, who presented the award to Williams. “I can say with certainty that he and Marie have indeed been a blessing to me and countless children and families served at BCH.”
Williams and his wife Marie live in Eastern North Carolina where they are members of Immanuel Baptist Church in Greenville. Williams has worked diligently throughout the years to benefit his home community including East Carolina University in Greenville and BCH’s Kennedy Home in Kinston. Williams was a vital contributor to renovation efforts at Kennedy Home for the campus’
centennial anniversary in 2014.
In addition to serving on the Board of Trustees, Williams and his wife serve as honorary chairs of
BCH’s Eastern North Carolina Sharing hope...changing lives Capital Campaign.
Williams’ benevolence has extended beyond the east to impact BCH’s ministries across North Carolina.
“When we realize that all we are given comes from God, it is then He makes us a reasonable success,” Williams shared after receiving the Heritage Award. “It’s God’s money; He just lets us manage it for a little while.”
The Heritage Award recognizes individuals who represent exemplary service and giving to the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSCNC) or an organization associated with the Convention. It is jointly sponsored by BSCNC and the North Carolina Baptist Foundation.
