Renown Artist, William Mangum, Named Honorary Chair of 2015 Hope In Style Event

North Carolina landscape painter William Mangum is the Honorary Chairman of the

2015 Hope in Style event to be held on Saturday, August 8 at the Greensboro Country Club.

Mangum came recently to Mills Home in Thomasville to speak to the residents.

William Mangum, “North Carolina’s Artist,” knew at age eight that he wanted to pursue art as an adult. Today with more than 3,000 paintings to his credit, Mangum is acknowledged as the state’s foremost landscape painter.

But painting is not an end in itself. Mangum is keenly aware of the needs of those less fortunate in his community and around the state. He uses his energies and talents to help raise money to benefit others.

This summer, he is lending a hand to Baptist Children’s Homes’ (BCH) Hope in Style event on Saturday, August 8 at the Greensboro Country Club.

“Love, support, encouragement, and a good dash of fun is what Hope in Style is all about,” Mangum says. “I am proud to be the Honorary Chairman for this year’s event. The mission is near and dear to my heart.”

The event, in its fourth year, features a silent auction, a fashion show featuring BCH’s residents, and a delicious brunch.

The children take center-stage to model clothes they personally shopped for at Belk.

The national department store, headquartered in Charlotte, serves as the lead sponsor providing school clothing for the residents at no cost.

“These kids richly deserve a moment to shine,” Mangum says. “Hope in Style gives them a chance to feel good about themselves as they stand in the spotlight wearing their carefully chosen outfits.”

Mangum feels an empathy for hurting children having experienced a tumultuous period in his own childhood. He says that he understands what the difference a single moment of hope or recognition can make in a life. “A ‘little hope’ is a treasured memory that can lift one up, comfort one or motivate.”

Hope in Style tickets cost $30. To learn more, become a sponsor, or donate a silent auction

item, contact BCH’s Karen Slate at 1.800.476.3669 ext. 1211 or email her at kslate@bchfamily.org. Also, visit www.hopeinstyle.org to learn more about the event.

Mangum is determined to help others learn of the importance of BCH’s ministry. “While Hope in Style is just a moment in time, Baptist Children’s Homes works every day to provide a safe environment, assist and re-assure these children of their value in the world and of God’s love for them. I encourage everyone to learn more about and to support the many programs this deserving organization has to aid those in need.”
