Monday's with the Prez!
Engaging in a staring contest with small children...getting the lowdown on favorite pop musicians from teen girls...asking staff members big life questions like “how do you want to be remembered?” – BCH president Michael C. Blackwell made Mondays in February memorable as the children and staff members on the Mills Home campus spent time with the Prez.
On Monday, February 6, the smell of freshly popped popcorn caught the boys’ attention as they entered the meeting place after school. Blackwell moved around the room greeting each child and speaking with the boys’ cottage parents. Laughter filled the air as BCH’s president for the past 34 years taught the boys the nuances of pig Latin.
The following Monday, February 13, the girls of Mills Home gathered with the Prez. Blackwell broke the ice with small talk as he greeted the residents and their cottage parents. Then he asked the girls to share their career plans.
“I want to be a nurse,” one girl said. Another wanted to go into the military. And then one girl asked, “What education would I need to become president of BCH?” The Prez chuckled with approval and shared his path to the presidency. The girl nodded and said she would think about it.
All agreed the meetings were a success and needed to be repeated.
