Runway for Success offers inspiration and opportunities

As older boys and girls at Baptist Children’s Homes (BCH) begin to think about the future, friends of the ministry are eager to encourage their dreams through the Thomas H. Davis Runway for Success. Each year, Runway provides a hands-on educational experience for BCH’s children as they consider their futures.

This year’s event held on August 1 combined learning opportunities at these businesses: Chetola Resort in Blowing Rock, Tar Heel Capital Corporation in Boone, Hollar and Greene Produce Company in Boone, and Critcher Bros Produce in Deep Gap.

“It was good to see the faces of the children we’ve been praying for at BCH. They are always close to our heart,” said Denise Critcher, who is an owner of Critcher Bros. along with her husband Roger.

The children not only received an inside look at how the businesses operate, but spent time with the owners. Roger Critcher started by sharing his faith.

“Roger asked them, ‘Do you believe you can love someone you’ve never seen before?;” Denise said. “You could tell their wheels were turning. Roger shared that while he and I didn’t know them, we have loved them for a long time, prayed for them, and that Jesus loves them.”

From learning about the produce businesses, the Wendys restaurants operated by Tar Heel Capital, and the workings of the 87-acre Chetola resort, Runway provided the children a day of inspiration and insight. The event is made possible by the Tom Davis Fund established by Piedmont Airlines founder Thomas H. Davis.
