Staff members recognized by peers for their service


In the presence of Baptist Children’s Homes (BCH) leadership, trustees and peers, several staff members were recognized as 2019 “Employees of the Year” for their outstanding service.


“This is one of my favorite times of the year, it is a day when we say thank you for your excellent service,” BCH president/CEO Michael C. Blackwell said.


The ceremony took place on April 23 at Mills Home in Thomasville. Recipients are voted on by their peers.


2019 Honorees

Sissy Britt is an office professional with Special Ministries administration in Thomasville. She tackles responsibilities which keep the Developmental Disabilities Ministries operating at the highest level.


“The DDM residents are welcoming and always remember your name,” she shared. “Working at BCH isn’t a ‘have’ to but a ‘get’ to.”


Matt and Jessie Chilson are child care workers at Kennedy Home in Kinston. They cared for children through two separate hurricanes and are matchless when it comes to child care work.


“I’m so thankful to work hand in hand with the gift God has given me in my husband, but equally thankful for the staff at Kennedy Home who supports us,” Jessie Chilson shared.


Bobby and Sonya Dalke serve at Broyhill Home in Clyde as senior child care workers. The couple is always ready, day or night, to provide the caring home a child desperately needs.


“My passion has always been to share Christ with the children,” Bobby Dalke said. “I am so thankful to be able to share that faith freely in everything we do.”


Marcia Housand is the Development and Communications database administrator. She manages her “behind-the-scenes” task with impeccable integrity.


“This award is an honor,” Housand said. “I am truly blessed to serve for these past 29 years.”


Vivian Johnson is a senior child care worker at Broyhill Home in Clyde impacting the older girls living in the transitional living cottage.


“This is not just a job –– it’s a family,” Johnson said. “I love what I do, and God isn’t finished with me yet.”


Robert Leonard is the North Carolina Baptist Aging Ministry (NCBAM) South Central Regional Director and works tirelessly to meet the needs of aging adults.


Leonard said. “The focus has always been to share Christ and meet the needs of aging people through His love.”


Ruby Pennington serves as the Properties/Family Resource Center (FRC) office professional. She is an ambassador to visitors and other who come to the FRC for meetings and trainings.


“I thank my Lord and Savior for blessing me and allowing me to be a part of this awesome ministry,” Pennington said.


Paul Sexton is program coordinator for the Developmental Disabilities Program (DDM). He is known as “Mr. Sunshine” because of his kindness and positive spirit.


“He loves his job and it shows,” his wife Connie shared. “He’s such a gentle man and his heart is amazingly large.”


Sandra Taylor has served as an office professional at Cameron Boys Camp (CBC) for 25 years. She is the compassionate voice first heard when a call comes into the camp office.


“She’s incredibly humble,” said CBC director Drew Scott. “She’s faithful to her work, faithful to her family, and she’s faithful to her Jesus.”
